Well, it’s that time of year. The time of year when we celebrate our Nation’s breaking the shackles of living as colonies of an unfair monarchy 3000 miles away. And from that day in 1776, when the Declaration of Independence (from England, not Germany as many seem to think) was signed, it has been a long, hard, uphill battle to become the greatest Nation the world has yet seen. And then the 1960s happened. Go to hell baby boomers for giving us the shit end of the stick by bequeathing to us a ruied country.

But I digress. In this episode, the gang and I discuss patriotic things like why the Civil War was important and how the average person is clueless; or the 17 whores in Mass. that all planned to get knocked up– one by a homeless 24 year-old– and raise their bastard children together; or how about people screwing up the Star Spangled Banner? We have clips of them. And do you know what a blumpkin is? Timmy will tell ya!

There are many more topics we discuss. July’s Top 5 is included in the show. The topic is the top 5 greatest things about being an American.

So, listen during your 4th of July festivities, won’t you?

Don’t forget to comment below, or send an email to MattCockburnShow@gmail.com and Matt will read it on the next show.

(Make sure the kids and faint of heart aren’t near.)

On the next episode, our guests will be the Julie Schreiber Band and Steph Jones. Email us any questions you may have for either one.

hey guys. very good show. well done. i liked the clips of the national anthem being fucked up. and those girls singing it was beautiful. there’s a different dynamic without johnson. i wouldn’t say better, but different. less arguing over every single thing matt says. Tim is a racist!

  3. JOHNSON — July 9, 2008 @ 8:16 pm

OK, for the record: I don’t think Timmy’s a racist, but I find the “little people” humor AWFUL, awful! This is what happens when I’m not there! : ) And naming chihuahua’s Mexican names is cool; come on! Because chihuahuas are cool and Mexicans are cool, and together it’s awesome!! If I had a chihuahua I’d name him Javier!! What could possibly be wrong with that? Val Kilmer is ok–Iceman is cool, but Schaff: The Saint is the WORST movie ever!! It’s the cinematic equivalent of Dianna Krall. Ugghhh!!! He rocked in that movie with Robert Deniro and Al Pacino, where his character got killed in the end. Bill O’Reilley: “play us out!” come on!! get with the program! That’s why he’s one of the most annoying people of the opposite sex! I love that left to your own devices, you guys play Presidential trivia!! Do you actually think Grant was honest, or was he just trying to appear honest, in fear the incident would get out and make him look corrupt?

  4. admin — July 9, 2008 @ 10:23 pm

Johnny, Grant actually was a more honest, stand-up guy than given credit for. The problem is that his reputation for having a corrupt administration was gotten because he had no clue what the hell was going on around him. He wasn’t a politician. He was a soldier who happened to go for the Presidency and won. Also, his rep for being a drunk was less than true.

Dianna Krall is good. We have her on the iPod at Spiritfields and I find I respect her more. Any chic that can actually PLAY a piano… or any instrument for that matter… has my vote.

And as for the MIDGET discussion… come on! They’re funny.

  5. JOHNSON — July 10, 2008 @ 12:57 am

little people humor=NOT FUNNY! Dianna Krall=good piano player; bad, bad singer.

little people humor= HILARIOUS. Why? Because they make fun of themselves by having such wonderful things as midget bowling, midget adult entertainment, Mini Me. Plus they have given us some iconic figures to remember like Oompa Loompas, Munchkins, Willow, and Danny DeVito.

    Hey guys
I just discover your show by accident. pretty good. the production value is good too. I’m reading your little argument here and sorta see both sides, but I laughed my ass off in the midget part of the show. Oh, and I am one. What I find appealing about your show is that you laugh at everyone and not just certain groups of people. I think we all forgot how to laugh aty ourselves anymore.

The thing about allthose midget explotation things is that it put food on the tables of little people. (I still call us midgets, but I’m almost 50. I just can’t keep up with what we’re supposed to call whom these days.)

I see Johnson’s point to the extent that she feels bad for us and doesn’t think we should be picked on. Thanks, but we can take care of ourselves AND how will we ever feel equal if we aren’t treated, not only as well as, but also, as bad as everyone else?

All that aside, great show. You have a new fan and I am going to spend some time listening to old episodes.

Damnit, Zauza! You’re getting m in trouble with Johnson. I sent you an email to get your ass back here and explain that you are real. She thinks I wrote your post because we have been having a 2-week soap opera over this issue. Apparently, it’s impossible for someone to agree with me. ;) Anyway, get back in here and prove who you are.

    And thanks for listening!
    Matt
